Horse Camp: Rodeo of the Ozarks - June 2nd

Springdale Parks and Recreation is excited to partner with Rodeo of the Ozarks. This will be a one day camp for kids to learn all about what happens at our local rodeo in town.

Horse Camp
June 2, 2023 | 8:00 am – 3:00 pm | Parsons Stadium | One-Day Horse Camp
Ages: 6-12 | $80 per day Limit: 60 children per day
Lunch Included, Snack Provided

Reminders:
Bring a water bottle (we will offer cold bottled water throughout the day but also want to encourage kids to bring their own).
Upon Drop off, we will ask parents to sign a liability waiver, pick up form, and photo release. Please disclose any food allergies.
Please apply sunscreen before drop off!

Safety notes:
Close toed shoes are required! Please where closed toed shoes that you don’t mind them getting dirty.
Children will be provided with helmets while riding and be required to wear a helmet at all times while on a horse. The horse that the child is on will be led by an experienced horse person and each child will have one or two side walkers. Helmets will be disinfected after each rider.
There is a 3:1 camp counselor/ volunteer to child ratio.
We will plan to put pediatric sunscreen on children if you do not wish for your child to have this, please let us know. We will be out in the sun for most of the day.
Must have ID at pick up!

Schedule:
8:00 am | Welcome/ Introductions (welcome, safety, groups, songs)
8:20 am | Presentation of the American Flag (horseback) & Pledge of allegiance.
8:30 am – 11:00 am | Morning Rotations
30 min sessions w/ 3 min transition
Grooming & washing
Equine anatomy, horse painting & leading
Stick horse barrel race + snacks
Roping / roping dummies
11:05 – 12:05 pm | Lunch 30-40 for lunch with hayride to follow (2 groups will have lunch then hayride. Then swap and the other 2 will have hayride then lunch)
Parents may come to watch children ride!
12:10 pm – 1:10 Horseback Riding / Tack Presentation & Free Play
2 Groups will do horseback riding
2 Groups will watch a tack presentation then have time for free play (outdoor games like baggo, ladder toss & coloring)
2 Groups will do horseback riding
2 Groups will watch a tack presentation then have time for free play (outdoor games like baggo, ladder toss & coloring)
2:10 pm - Back to air conditioned space. Create and complete activity booklet to review what was learned that day.
2:50 pm – Close out
3:00 pm – Release ID Required at pick up!

Note:

This is the sign up for the June 2nd Session. Session is from 8am to 3pm at Parsons Stadium. Check-in will be at the Riding Club Building. Lunch included (sack lunch style - sandwich, chips, etc.)
